This is a lovely figured Valley Oak vase turned from the wood of the Big Valley Oak Tree Project in Walnut Creek. Valley Oak wood is a very unstable wood, and because of this, the vase is noticably out of round which adds character and interest. This vase also has a split in the bottom as the wood changed shape with drying. The split is not obvious when sitting on a table. A spray lacquer satin finish was used to help protect the wood's character. It is not intended to hold water but may be used for dried or silk flower arangements or other such items.
